AN IMPOSSIBLE BEGINNING

KEY VERSE:
“Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.”
Joshua 1:3 (KJV)

INTRODUCTION:
God often begins great things with what seems impossible. When Joshua stepped into leadership after Moses’ death, his very first assignment was to lead Israel across a raging, flooded Jordan River—an impossible task in the natural. But when God says “go,” impossibility must bow.

MESSAGE:

  1. The Command to Cross
God told Joshua, “Go over this Jordan,” even though it was overflowing its banks. It was humanly impossible, yet divinely commanded. God’s instructions are not based on natural conditions but on supernatural provision. The Lord backed His command with a promise:
“As I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee” (Joshua 1:5).
  2. The Promise to Possess
The land of Canaan had already been given to Israel by divine covenant (Numbers 33:51–53). However, the people still had to rise up, cross over, confront the enemy, and claim it. God gave them 300,000 square miles of territory, but they only ever possessed 30,000. The inheritance was unconditional, but possession required obedience, courage, and action.
  3. Your Inheritance Awaits
Like Israel, many believers today are living far below their inheritance. God has made powerful promises to you—healing, provision, peace, victory, spiritual authority—but how much have you actually possessed? He is saying to you today, “Arise and go…I have given you the land.” Yes, the first steps may feel impossible, but faith begins where human ability ends.

CONCLUSION:
You may not be facing a literal river, but your “Jordan” might be a flood of financial stress, emotional turmoil, spiritual opposition, or overwhelming fear. In the natural, you may feel unqualified, under-resourced, or unprepared. But you are not walking in the natural—you are living in the supernatural.

Start where it seems impossible. Step into what seems too big, too hard, or too far. The God who split the sea, stopped the river, and brought down walls will also make your impossibilities bow.

PRACTICAL REFLECTION:
What is the “impossible” assignment God has placed before you? Identify it. Then, by faith, take the first step. Trust that if He has commanded it, He will also empower you to do it.

SIMPLE SUMMARY:
God’s call often begins at the edge of the impossible. Like Joshua, we are called to cross over and claim the promises of God—regardless of what stands in the way. Obedience unlocks the power to possess.

MEMORY VERSE:
“Arise, go over this Jordan… unto the land which I do give to them…”Joshua 1:2b (KJV)

PRAYER POINTS:

  1. Lord, strengthen me to obey You even when the task looks impossible.
  2. Help me to rise above fear and claim every promise You have made.
  3. I declare that every obstacle before me shall become a testimony of Your power.
