THE PRESENCE

KEY VERSE
“And the captain of the Lord’s host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy.”Joshua 5:15

INTRODUCTION

In the journey of spiritual conquest, there are certain pivotal moments that prepare believers to claim their spiritual inheritance. For Israel, after passing through Purification, celebrating Passover, and experiencing Provision, the final preparation for conquering Canaan was The Manifested Presence of God. Just as Israel needed this presence to advance, so do we in our walk with God today.

MESSAGE

As the time of battle drew near, Joshua felt the weight of responsibility for the upcoming war. In his mind, it was a simple matter of his people versus the enemy. But God had a greater revelation to impart to Joshua: the battle was not “us against them,” but “Him against them.” The moment Joshua encountered a man with a drawn sword, he was introduced to this truth. Joshua’s question, “Are you for us or our adversaries?” was met with a powerful response: the man identified himself as the Captain of the Lord’s host, a pre-incarnate appearance of Jesus Christ.

This encounter made Joshua realize that the battle was not his alone to fight. The manifested presence of God was with him, and the battle was to be fought on God’s terms. The sword in the hand of the Captain was symbolic of God’s Word, which is the weapon for every battle in His name. Any battle for the fulfillment of God’s promises must be fought according to His guidance, His way, and His strength.

Joshua was then told to remove his shoe, because he was standing on holy ground. This wasn’t just an ordinary command. It was a visible symbol of divine confirmation—a gesture that acknowledged God’s presence and His agreement with the promise He was about to fulfill. Much like the practice when Boaz secured Ruth’s land (Ruth 4:7-8), it was a spiritual sign that God’s covenant was being confirmed.

APPLICATION TO OUR LIVES

Have you encountered the Captain of God’s host? Are you aware of His manifested presence as you move forward to claim your spiritual inheritance? If not, like Joshua, you must come before God and ask, “What saith my Lord unto His servant?” Then, just as Joshua did, whatever God says—do it!

When Moses was given the monumental task of leading Israel, he would not take another step without the assurance of God’s presence. He cried out, “If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence” (Exodus 33:15). God’s response was clear and comforting: “My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.” Moses needed God’s presence. Joshua needed it. And you need it too!

CONCLUSION

In the spiritual journey of claiming God’s promises, we too must go through the stages of Purification, Passover, Provision, and most importantly, The Presence of God. These steps prepare us to walk in victory, not by our strength, but by the powerful presence of God that goes with us.

God’s manifested presence is not just a concept; it is a powerful, tangible reality that empowers us to claim and fulfill our divine purpose. Just as Joshua needed it to conquer Canaan, we need it to overcome the battles in our lives.

PRACTICAL REFLECTION

Take a moment today to reflect on your own journey. Are you aware of God’s presence with you in the challenges you face? Do you feel empowered by His presence to move forward in your purpose? Pray and ask God to make His presence more real to you, and trust Him to lead you into your inheritance.
