THE JERICHOS OF LIFE

KEY VERSE
“By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were compassed about seven days.”Hebrews 11:30

INTRODUCTION

This month, we are reflecting on what it means to be a proof-producer for the Kingdom of God. Just as the Lord gave Israel victory over the flooded Jordan River, proving His power to the surrounding nations, He desires to demonstrate His glory through you in the Jerichos of life. The walls that seem insurmountable, the battles that feel unwinnable, are precisely where God’s miraculous power is revealed.

MESSAGE

When Joshua and the children of Israel crossed the Jordan River on dry ground, the proof of God’s power was undeniable. Joshua 5:1 tells us that when the surrounding kings of the Amorites and Canaanites heard about the miracle, their hearts melted with fear. Before Israel even arrived, the enemy was already defeated. This is the nature of a proof-producing ministry: it renders the enemy powerless even before the battle begins.

When the city of Jericho heard what God had done at the Jordan, they immediately locked their gates and prepared to defend their city. Yet, it wasn’t their own strength or military might that made the difference—it was the power of God working on behalf of His people. The enemy knew that the battle belonged to the Lord.

God repeatedly declared, “I have given” and “I will” throughout the conquest of Canaan, making it clear that victory does not come through human effort but through God’s strategy and power. The battle is the Lord’s, and He is the one who equips His people with spiritual strategies and supernatural weapons.

THE STRATEGY OF GOD

As Israel approached Jericho, they received a strategy that seemed unorthodox: march around the city once a day for six days, and on the seventh day, march around it seven times. At the sound of the priests’ trumpets, the people were to shout, and the walls would fall.

This might have seemed absurd to human reasoning—marching around a city with no visible signs of immediate action—but God’s methods are often beyond human comprehension. Just as David defeated Goliath with a stone, or Samson defeated an army with the jawbone of a donkey, or Jael brought victory with a tent peg, so God’s unconventional methods bring about His purposes.

Archaeological evidence has even confirmed that the walls of Jericho fell flat after this powerful act of faith. The faith of the Israelites, obeying God’s seemingly strange command, made the walls collapse, and Joshua 5:30 tells us the key to their victory: faith.

APPLICATION TO OUR LIVES

Just as God’s miraculous provision was made manifest through faith, so your Jerichos will fall not by your own efforts, but by the power of God working through your faith and obedience to His Word. Faith is the key to overcoming the obstacles and walls that stand in your way. When your own “walls” of opposition—be it past hurts, failures, anger, or disappointments—fall, there may be rubble and mess. But just as the Israelites had to step over the ruins of Jericho to claim their victory, you must step over the rubble of your past and advance toward your divine destiny.

CONCLUSION

God’s power is not hindered by the size of the obstacle in front of you. Whether it’s the walls of Jericho or the giants of your life, remember that God’s methods may seem unusual, but His power is absolute. Walk in faith, obey His commands, and watch as the walls fall.

The Jerichos of life are not meant to stop you—they are stepping stones to greater victory in God. The proof-producing power of God is at work in your life, and faith is the key to unlocking that power.

PRACTICAL REFLECTION

Take a moment today to reflect on the “Jerichos” in your life—those overwhelming obstacles that seem impossible to overcome. How can you exercise faith in God’s instructions, even if they seem unusual? Trust that, just like Israel, you will step over the rubble and enter into the promises He has prepared for you.

SIMPLE SUMMARY

The Jerichos of life are not meant to stop you; they are the opportunity for God to demonstrate His proof-producing power. Through faith and obedience to His Word, the walls will fall, and you will claim your victory.
