TOPIC: YOU ARE A NEW CREATION
KEY VERSE:
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
INTRODUCTION
Before you can walk in spiritual authority, before you can command darkness, silence fear, overcome temptation, and fulfill your destiny, you must know who you are.
Spiritual authority is impossible without spiritual identity. Many Christians live defeated simply because they have no idea what they became the very moment they received Christ.
As we begin this second series of our Lifeline Daily Devotional guide, our first topic focuses on a foundational truth that changes everything: you are a NEW creation. Not a repaired one. Not a patched one. A completely NEW being.
MESSAGE
1. SALVATION MAKES YOU A BRAND-NEW BEING
The Greek word for “new creature” is kainos ktisis, meaning:
- A new species
- Something never seen before
- Something entirely new in quality and nature
You were not upgraded. You were recreated.
God didn’t fix you. He re-birthed you.
This means:
- You are no longer defined by your past
- You are no longer who you were before Christ saved you
- Your spiritual DNA has changed
- You now carry the life of God
Eternal life is not something you will get when you die. You received it the moment you believed in Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour.
2. THE OLD HAS TRULY PASSED AWAY
What does “old things are passed away” mean?
It means:
- Your old sins are forgiven
- Your old identity is erased
- Your old guilt is removed
- Your old limitations are broken
- Your old nature has been crucified
- Your old record is wiped out
- Your old spiritual status has completely changed
Romans 6:6 says: “Our old man is crucified with Him…”
Not repaired. Not disciplined. Not improved. But crucified, dead, and buried. In other words, it no longer exists.
3. YOU NOW HAVE A NEW LIFE INSIDE YOU
The life of God which is called ZOE now flows in your spirit.
1 John 5:12 says: “He that hath the Son hath life…”
This life is:
- God’s nature
- God’s power
- God’s purity
- God’s wisdom
- God’s strength
- God’s ability
You now carry the same spiritual life that raised Jesus from the dead.
4. YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY YOUR FEELINGS
Sometimes you may not feel new.
You may still:
- Feel weak
- Feel tempted
- Feel emotionally heavy
- Feel unworthy
But your feelings do not define your identity. What God said is greater than what you feel. Your new identity is based on truth, not emotions. It is based on Scripture, not your circumstances. It is based on the finished work of Christ, not your past.
5. YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY YOUR PAST
The devil loves to whisper:
“You’re still the same.”
“You haven’t really changed.”
“Look at your mistakes.”
“You will never be free.”
But God says:
“I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions…” (Isaiah 43:25)
Your past is not powerful enough to cancel what God has recreated. You do not have a past in God. You only have a future in Christ.
6. YOU ARE NOT DEFINED BY PEOPLE’S OPINIONS
Some people may still see you as the “old you.” But heaven sees you differently.
According to the Word of God, when you’re genuinely born again:
- You are forgiven
- You are accepted
- You are righteous
- You are beloved
- You are washed
- You are sanctified
- You are chosen
- You are royalty
God’s verdict is final. People don’t get to decide who you are, Christ does.
7. YOU MUST SEE YOURSELF THE WAY GOD SEES YOU
The enemy wins when you have identity amnesia. That is, when you forget that:
- You are a new creature in Christ
- You carry God’s life in your spirit
- You are the righteousness of God in Christ
- You have authority over principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and wicked spirits
- You are seated with Christ in the heavenly places
- You are a covenant child of the Most High God
But when you SEE yourself correctly, everything changes. For example, what you see determines:
- How you pray
- How you think
- How you react to things
- What you tolerate
- What you overcome
- What you expect
- How you live
Identity affects your destiny.
CONCLUSION
You are not trying to become a new creation, you already are one.
You don’t grow into the new nature, you grow from the new nature.
As a child of God, every limitation of your past is broken. Every sin is washed away.
Every old identity is erased. You are new in God’s eyes. You are now alive in Christ.
And this is the foundation for walking in spiritual authority.
PRACTICAL REFLECTION
Ask yourself:
- Do I still see myself through the lens of my past?
- What lies have I believed about myself?
- Am I living like a new creation or like the old me?
- What must I unlearn?
- What truth must I embrace today?
Write today’s key verse (2 Corinthians 5:17) in your journal and meditate on it throughout the day.
SIMPLE SUMMARY
The old you is dead and buried. The new you has come.
You carry God’s life now. You are a new creation, completely transformed.
This is your identity and your foundation for spiritual authority.
PRAYER POINTS
- Father, thank You for making me a new creation in Christ Jesus.
