TEXT:
Acts 2:22 – “Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs…”
Hebrews 2:4 – “God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles…”
INTRODUCTION
Signs and wonders are not magic.
They are not stage performances.
They are not church entertainment.
They are the manifestation of the power of God through ordinary people who believe an extraordinary God.
God has declared this year as Our Year of Signs and Wonders.
That means:
- God wants to reveal His power in your life
- He wants to show Himself strong through you
- God wants to confirm His Word with miracles
Mark 16:20 – “And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following.”
Signs follow believers.
Believers don’t chase signs.
WHAT ARE SIGNS AND WONDERS?
Signs
A sign is a supernatural act that points people to God.
John 20:30–31: “These are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ…”
Wonders
A wonder is a miracle that makes people amazed at God.
Acts 3:9–10: “And all the people saw him walking and praising God… and they were filled with wonder and amazement.”
Signs point to God.
Wonders glorify God.
Miracles reveal God.
WHY DOES GOD ENGAGE IN SIGNS AND WONDERS?
1. To confirm His Word
Mark 16:20 – “And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.”
2. To prove He is alive
Acts 4:30 – “By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.”
3. To bring people to salvation
John 4:48 – “Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.”
4. To show His love and compassion
Matthew 14:14 – “And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick.”
5. To destroy the works of the devil
1 John 3:8 – “… For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”
KEYS TO WALKING IN SIGNS AND WONDERS
KEY 1: FAITH IN GOD AND HIS WORD
Signs and wonders operate on the platform of faith.
Hebrews 11:6 – “Without faith it is impossible to please him…”
Mark 9:23 – “If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.”
Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. That is, faith is believing God even when the result is not yet visible (Luke 1:45 – And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord).
Faith is acting on God’s Word (Luke 5:5-6 – And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake).
Faith is trusting God’s power (Acts 3:6 – Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk).
Practical Application:
- Believe God can use you
- Believe His Word is true and act upon it
- Believe that miracles are for today; that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
KEY 2: KNOWLEDGE OF THE WORD OF GOD
You cannot operate in God’s power beyond your knowledge of His Word.
Hosea 4:6 “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…”
Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
The Word of God produces faith, which guarantees your access to signs and wonders. The Word gives:
- Confidence
- Boldness
- Authority
- Direction
Practical Application:
- Study your Bible daily
- Meditate on the Word regularly; let it dwell richly in you
- Obey the Word; act on God’s promises
KEY 3: A LIFE OF PRAYER
Power flows from the place of prayer. Many believers are powerless because they are prayerless.
Jesus said in Luke 18:1 “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint.”
Acts 4:31 “When they had prayed… they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.”
Prayer connects you to heaven. It is your link to the supernatural.
Prayer activates spiritual authority.
Prayer releases divine power.
Practical Application:
- Develop a daily prayer life
- Join corporate prayers
- Pray with expectation
KEY 4: THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
No one works signs and wonders by human strength.
Acts 1:8 “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you…”
Zechariah 4:6 “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, saith the Lord.”
The Holy Spirit is:
- The Source of power
- The Worker of miracles
- The Revealer of God’s will
Practical Application:
- Desire the Holy Spirit
- Yield yourself completely to Him
- Obey and follow His guidance at all times
KEY 5: A PURE AND OBEDIENT LIFE
To walk in signs and wonders, you must walk in holiness. God’s power flows freely through a clean vessel.
2 Timothy 2:21 “If a man therefore purge himself… he shall be a vessel unto honour…”
Psalm 24:3–4 “He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart…”
Obedience attracts God’s power.
Disobedience blocks God’s flow.
Practical Application:
- Run from sin; flee from every appearance of evil.
- Live holy
- Obey God quickly
KEY 6: COMPASSION FOR PEOPLE
Miracles flow from love.
Matthew 14:14 “And Jesus was moved with compassion… and healed their sick.”
Mark 1:41 “Jesus, moved with compassion… touched him…”
Power without love is dangerous.
Love without power is ineffective.
God wants you to walk in both.
Practical Application:
- Walk in love
- Be compassionate towards people
- Help the needy
KEY 7: BOLDNESS TO ACT
Miracles happen when you act on God’s Word. While everyone ran away from Goliath, David confronted him and defeated him. According to Proverbs 28:1, the righteous are as bold as a lion. To experience God’s power, you must put action behind your faith.
James 2:17 “Faith, if it hath not works, is dead…”
Acts 3:6–7 “Then Peter said… In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”
Peter didn’t just believe.
He acted.
Practical Application:
- Don’t hesitate to pray for the sick
- Declare God’s Word over your situation; speak to the mountains.
- Step out in faith
KEY 8: HUNGER FOR GOD’S POWER
God fills those who are hungry.
Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied”
Jeremiah 29:13 “Ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”
No hunger, no filling.
No thirst, no overflow.
Practical Application:
- Desire God’s power
- Seek God daily
- Long for His presence
BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF MEN WHO WALKED IN SIGNS AND WONDERS
Moses — Exodus 7–12
Elijah — 1 Kings 18
Elisha — 2 Kings 4–6
Peter — Acts 3, Acts 5
Paul — Acts 19
They were ordinary men serving an extraordinary God.
CONCLUSION
God has not changed. The same God who parted the Red Sea, who brought water out of the rock, and who raised Lazarus from the dead is still the Almighty, the Miracle-Worker, and the Way-Maker.
Malachi 3:6 — “For I am the Lord, I change not…”
Hebrews 13:8 — “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.”
His power has not diminished. Today, He still heals the sick, delivers the oppressed, breaks yokes and chains, and turns impossibilities into testimonies.
Jeremiah 32:27 — “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?”
Luke 1:37 — “For with God nothing shall be impossible.”
His arm is not shortened. That means He can still save the sinner, lift the fallen, restore the broken, turn captivity around, and intervene in impossible situations.
Isaiah 59:1 — “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear.”
If God did signs and wonders before, He will do them again.
But He wants to use you.
He wants to show His power in your life.
He wants to work miracles through you.
All you need is to simply:
Believe God.
Know His Word.
Pray always.
Walk with the Holy Spirit.
Live holy.
Love people.
Act in faith.
Hunger for God.
