COMING TO THE END OF YOURSELF

KEY VERSE:
“For we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead.” — 2 Corinthians 1:9 (KJV)

INTRODUCTION
Sometimes, God allows us to come to the end of ourselves so that we can fully discover the beginning of His divine power. When all human effort fails, God’s supernatural provision begins to manifest. The story of the widow of Zarephath reminds us that what seems like an ending can become the starting point of a divine miracle.

MESSAGE

  1. When Natural Resources Fail, God Steps In
The widow at Zarephath had reached the end of her strength and supply. She was preparing what she thought would be her last meal for herself and her son. She had lost hope, and her words reflected finality: “that we may eat it and die.”

Yet, right at that moment, God sent His prophet Elijah to her. When human help is exhausted and natural options are gone, divine intervention steps in. The same God who visited the widow in her hopelessness can step into your situation today.

  1. Shifting Focus from Fear to Faith
Elijah’s first words to her were, “Fear not!” This was not just comfort—it was a divine command. Fear paralyzes faith and magnifies lack. When you focus on your insufficiency, you become blind to God’s abundance. The widow had to look beyond her “handful of flour and little oil” and place her trust in God’s Word spoken through His prophet.
  1. Obedience Unlocks Provision
Elijah instructed the widow to make him a small cake first—a test of faith and obedience. In doing so, she prioritized God above her own need. Her act of obedience released a continuous miracle: “The barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail.”
Divine sufficiency flows where obedience and faith meet. God may not give you a lifetime supply all at once, but He will ensure that every day brings just enough.
  1. When You Come to the End, God Begins
The Apostle Paul echoed this same truth when he said, “We had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead.” When you come to your end—emotionally, financially, or spiritually—it is not the end for God. He specializes in raising what seems dead.

CONCLUSION
When life pushes you to the brink, don’t give up—look up! God’s power is revealed most clearly when our strength is gone. Like the widow, release what you have in faith, obey His voice, and watch His miracle unfold daily.

PRACTICAL REFLECTION
What “handful of flour and little oil” do you have in your life? Place it in God’s hands through obedience, and it will never run out.

SIMPLE SUMMARY
When your human resources end, divine resources begin. Trust and obey—God’s provision never fails.

  1. Lord, teach me to trust You when I reach the end of my strength.
  2. Deliver me from fear and help me walk in absolute obedience.
