HOUSEHOLD SALVATION

KEY VERSE:
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.” – Acts 16:31

INTRODUCTION
The story of Rahab’s faith and the salvation of her household is a powerful example of God’s redemptive plan for families. In Joshua 6:22-23, after Rahab protected the spies sent by Israel to Jericho, the spies instructed her to hang a scarlet cord from her window as a sign of her faith. This act of obedience marked her home for protection during the battle.

Joshua told the two men who had spied out the country:

“Go into the harlot’s house, and from there bring out the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her.  And the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. So they brought out all her relatives and left them outside the camp of Israel” (Joshua 6:22-23).

True to the promise made to her, Rahab and her entire household were spared when the walls of Jericho fell. The scarlet cord she hung out of her window became a symbol of the blood of redemption—just as the blood on the doorposts during the Passover in Egypt marked the Israelites for salvation (Exodus 12:13). Rahab’s faith in the scarlet cord was not in the physical object itself but in what it represented—the blood of Christ that redeems and saves.

MESSAGE
Rahab’s story mirrors God’s plan for household salvation. Just as she interceded for her family and saw them saved, we too can stand in the gap for our loved ones. Through faith, we claim the power of the blood of Jesus over our homes, knowing that God’s promise still stands: “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.”

Rahab’s faith led to her becoming part of the lineage of Christ—she married Salmon, and their son Boaz married Ruth, who bore a son named Obed. Obed was the father of Jesse, from whom King David came. Jesus Christ Himself eventually came through the line of David (Matthew 1:5). Rahab, a woman with a past as a prostitute, was redeemed by the power of God’s grace and became a part of His divine plan. This powerful story speaks of God’s ability to transform and redeem, no matter how broken or unlikely the situation may seem.

In Acts 16:31-34, when Paul and Silas spoke to the Philippian jailer, they declared that salvation was not just for him but for his entire household. The jailer, upon believing in Jesus Christ, was saved, and so was his family. The power of household salvation is clear—God’s grace extends not just to individuals but can transform families when we pray and intercede for them.

CONCLUSION
If you feel the foundations of your home are shaking right now, or if you’ve prayed for years without seeing visible results, take heart. Don’t give up on your loved ones. Just as Rahab’s faith in the scarlet cord saved her family, your faith and prayers can cover your household with the blood of Jesus, bringing them into His saving grace.

Today, I encourage you to hold onto that scarlet cord, representing the precious blood of Jesus Christ, and believe for the salvation of your entire household. Your faith will bring about proof-producing results. No matter how far off they may seem, God is at work, and He is able to redeem and restore any member of your family.
