PREPARING TO RECEIVE

KEY VERSE
“Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.”2 Kings 4:3

INTRODUCTION

The river of God’s manifested power will not flow into a spiritual void. It will not flow to those who are preoccupied with their own concerns or those who limit God through unbelief. The river of God flows to those who, like the widow woman in Elisha’s time, are prepared to receive it.

MESSAGE

In 2 Kings 4:1-4, we read the story of a widow who found herself in a desperate situation. Her husband, a servant of God, had died, leaving her with debt and no means of provision. As the creditor came to take her two sons as bondmen, she turned to Elisha for help. The prophet asked her, “What do you have in the house?” Her response was simple: “I have nothing in the house except a pot of oil.”

Elisha then instructed her to borrow as many empty vessels as she could from her neighbors and to pour the oil into them. Miraculously, the oil kept flowing until all the vessels were filled. This supernatural flow of oil canceled her debt and provided for her future.

What’s significant about this story is not just the miracle itself, but the woman’s preparedness. She heard and acted on the prophet’s word. She caught the vision of what was possible and prepared herself to receive. Her act of faith allowed the river of God’s power to flow into her life.

PREPARATION IS KEY

The same is true for us today. Just as the widow woman prepared to receive the oil, we must prepare our hearts to receive the river of God’s anointing. The river of God is a flow of supernatural power—His manifested presence. But to receive it, we must be prepared spiritually.

To prepare, you must renew your spiritual focus. Like the widow woman, you must catch the vision of what God wants to do in and through your life:

  • If you feel spiritually empty…
  • If you long to be used by God but are unsure of your place in His plan…
  • If you sense that there’s more to your Christian life than the routine you’ve fallen into…

…Then it’s time to ask God to open your spiritual eyes. We’re not talking about natural eyesight or trance-like visions, but rather a spiritual awakening—a new understanding of God’s plans for your life.

THE RIVER OF GOD’S ANOINTING

When you prepare your heart to receive, you position yourself to experience the supernatural flow of God’s power in your life. This river will not only transform you but will also flow through you to bring transformation to others.

Just as the river of oil flowed and multiplied in the widow’s house, so the river of God’s anointing will flow in and through your life to accomplish God’s will.

CONCLUSION

To receive the river of God’s anointing, you must first prepare your heart. Renew your spiritual focus and catch the vision of God’s plan for your life. As you step into the flow, you will experience His manifested power—a power that will not only change you but will also flow through you to bring transformation to those around you.

PRACTICAL REFLECTION

What preparations are you making today to receive the river of God’s anointing? Take a moment to ask God to open your eyes and heart to His plans and purposes for your life. Don’t settle for the routine—embrace the supernatural flow of His power.

SIMPLE SUMMARY

The river of God’s anointing will flow to those who are prepared. Like the widow, renew your spiritual focus and catch the vision of what God wants to do in your life. As you prepare, the river of His power will flow in and through you to bring transformation.
