SHE SAW THE PROOF

KEY VERSE:
“For the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.” – Joshua 2:11 (KJV)

INTRODUCTION:
In Joshua chapters 2 and 6, we read the powerful story of Rahab, a woman whose life was forever changed by a divine encounter. The Israelites had already been promised the land of Canaan, but before they made their move to conquer it, Joshua sent two spies to survey the fortified city of Jericho. Unlike the twelve spies sent earlier to scout out the Promised Land, Canaan, the mission in Jericho was not about questioning whether God’s plan was right, but about determining when and how to carry out the conquest.

MESSAGE:
Jericho was a prosperous, fortified city, protected by two massive walls. These walls were both a source of pride and security for its inhabitants. To take the city, the Israelites would need to breach or destroy these walls. As the spies entered Jericho, they sought refuge in the house of Rahab, a woman known for her occupation as a prostitute. There may have been practical reasons for this—her house was strategically placed between the two walls of the city, and it was a place where strangers might not be easily noticed. But the deeper reason for the spies’ choice is that the Lord Himself directed them there.

At this point, Rahab had not yet known God in the way the Israelites did, but she was about to. Rahab’s encounter with the two spies marked the beginning of a transformation that would change the course of her life. Not only would she help the spies escape, but she would also become a key figure in the lineage of Jesus Christ.

When the king of Jericho learned of the spies’ presence in Rahab’s house, he sent messengers to demand their capture. However, Rahab hid the spies and sent the king’s men on a false trail. In her words to the spies, we see a remarkable expression of faith:

“I know that the Lord has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you. For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath” (Joshua 2:9-11).

What prompted Rahab, a pagan woman, to declare such bold faith in the God of Israel? The answer is simple: she saw the proof. She had heard of the miracles God had performed for the Israelites—how He had parted the Red Sea, how He had delivered them from powerful enemies, and how His power had made them unstoppable. This evidence—the miraculous works of God—was undeniable proof that the God of Israel was the one true God.

CONCLUSION:
The same question applies to us today: Does our life and ministry demonstrate the proof of God’s power and presence? Are we living testimonies of His miraculous workings? Just as Rahab acknowledged God after hearing about His miracles, the world is still watching, waiting to see the proof of God’s power through our lives.

If our lives and ministries are truly anchored in God’s truth, the miraculous will follow. As we walk in faith, we will see the hand of God move in powerful ways. It’s time for us to ask ourselves: Are we displaying the proof that God is still the miracle-working God?

PRACTICAL REFLECTION:
• How has God proven Himself in your life through miraculous works?
• Do your actions, words, and ministry reflect God’s power to those around you?
• What steps can you take today to allow God’s power to manifest in your life and ministry?

PRAYER POINTS:

  1. Lord, help me to walk in a way that demonstrates Your power and glory.
  2. Father, open my eyes to see Your hand at work in my life and the lives of others.
  3. Holy Spirit, empower me to be a living testimony of the miracles God is still performing today.
